House of Retreat, Pleshey
Monday 27 to Wednesday 29 January 2020
I have made a provisional booking at the Pleshey House of Retreat for Monday 27 to Wednesday 29 January 2020 (lunchtime to lunchtime inclusive). These dates are after the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity and before the beginning of Lent. They also avoid clashing with the Vice-President of Conference’s visit to the district.
I am always pleased to receive early enquiries from ministers and lay workers interested in attending. So, if you would value the opportunity of some quiet days in the company of ministerial colleagues from around the district, please let me know.
Three presbyters from the District stayed at Pleshey from 4 to 6 February 2019. We valued these quiet days, meeting to enjoy each others' company over meals and to share conversation. We were welcomed to share in daily morning and lunchtime prayers with the Pleshey staff, volunteers and day chaplains. On our final morning we shared a Celtic-themed Holy Communion service in the light and airy Orangery, inviting the other people who were staying on retreat at Pleshey to join us. They were pleased to do so, and enriched our worship and fellowship by their participation.
The improvement in the facilities at Pleshey, especially the en-suite rooms and lift access for people with additional mobility needs and/or physical disabilities, has been a welcome development.
If there is sufficient interest I will explore engaging an external facilitator to provide some input, otherwise it will be quiet DIY time and space. Twelve confirmed bookings is the critical number to enable me to secure an external retreat facilitator with confidence.
