Safeguarding Officer (Casework and Training)

Full-time salary equivalent: £28,850 to £33,500 

The Bedfordshire, Essex and Hertfordshire District of the Methodist Church comprises 160 churches in these three counties (outside the M25 motorway), grouped into 12 circuits.

The Safeguarding Officer (Casework and Training) will work closely with the District Chair and Lead District Safeguarding Officer in providing leadership in safeguarding matters in the churches and circuits of the District.  This is achieved through compliance with safeguarding policies, procedures and practices of the Methodist Church; adhering to legal requirements on safeguarding matters; undertaking safeguarding case work and risk assessments; delivery of safeguarding training in conjunction with regional staff of the Methodist Learning Network; developing good safeguarding practice; providing safeguarding advice and guidance to circuits and churches.

The Candidate

You will need to have:

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant field (Child Care, Social Work, Psychology, Health, Probation, Police, Education etc);
  • Relevant professional training;
  • Appreciation of the way in which safeguarding needs to be implemented within the context of the Methodist Church;
  • Experience of working with volunteers;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Sympathy with the ethos of the Methodist Church.

14 hours per week worked flexibly, including evenings and occasional weekends.
